After completing my post graduate education I was hired for an intern position for tax season. I was immediately thrown into the world of taxation, which we all know is constantly changing. I realized I had so much to learn…
Tax season was extremely busy, but it was a great way for me to learn. I had a variety of challenging work and was able to figure out where my strengths and weaknesses were after becoming familiar with the tax forms and software. I learned from different people at different levels including supervisors, managers and shareholders. Working as an intern gave me the chance to explore Tonneson to determine if it would be the right fit for me. In turn, it gave Tonneson a chance to see my professional work ethic, and my personality. I made it through tax season and am currently working as a full-time employee. Everyone has certain expectations and Tonneson + Co surpassed mine.
The work environment at Tonneson is very welcoming. When people think of accountants they tend to think they’re a boring bunch of people. Well Tonneson proves otherwise. Everyone here has a unique personality. The summer outing this year was a scavenger hunt around Boston which was fun, exciting and it promoted team work. The company’s red Sox outing was a blast as well, even the interns went. The company is hosting a Halloween parade for the children of employees at T + Co. It’s events like these that show the company cares about its employees. Outings produce a feeling of cohesiveness that is desired when working as a team. Building relationships with coworkers as well as clients is a strongpoint of T + Co.
Not only does Tonneson care for its employees, but Tonneson cares for its community as well. The company raises money for various charities as a whole, and on an individual level as well. The company participated in the Easter Seals softball game, while individuals of T + Co have raised donations for schools and participated in various cancer walks, and other good causes.
T + Co is concerned about both personal and professional development. How you grow as an employee is the main focus but how you grow as a person is also important. Maintaining CPE credits and keeping up with the new accounting rules and tax legislation is part of professional growth. Many of my peers and I are studying for the CPA exam. It’s always good to know you’re not the only one going through it. What makes it even better is that we can help each other out by asking each other questions or asking for help when we don’t understand something. We can help each other grow by learning from one another.
